TL;DR

  • The US Open Women’s Major is live from Riviera CC, Los Angeles

  • Is Nelly’s competitor IQ better than Rory’s

  • Every Hole from Riviera disected

  • Can Grant Horvat go head to head with Nelly Korda?

  • Scheffler, Reed and Korda locked atop the rankings!

NEWS
The best golfers descend on LA. The traffic will be terrible. The golf won't…

Background: The US Women's Open has landed at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, the first time the championship has been held at this address. For context, this is the same course the men play the Genesis Invitational on every year. Hollywood glamour, George Thomas design, and now the best women's field in golf. Great venue choice.

What happened: Nelly Korda has already won three times in 2026 including the Chevron Championship for her third major title and 17th career LPGA win. She arrives at Riviera as world number one, in form, and with a point to prove the US Women's Open is the one title she still hasn't won. That's the whole story in one sentence.

What else: World number two Jeeno Thitikul is the other name everyone's watching, she and Korda have combined for five wins this year, but the US Women's Open remains a white whale for both players, a puzzle neither has solved yet. Australia's Hannah Green is also in the frame having won four times worldwide in 2026, while Charley Hull arrives with four career major runner-up finishes and absolutely zero major titles to show for them. Poor Charley...

What's the key learning?

  • The best player in women's golf right now is Nelly Korda and it isn't particularly close. The only question this week is whether Riviera's demands level the field or hand her another trophy to add to the collection.

  • Through 13 LPGA events in 2026, there has not been a single first-time winner on tour. The same names keep winning. Which either means the gap between the elite and everyone else is widening or someone is about to snap that streak in spectacular fashion at a major. Either outcome makes for great television.
