The PGA Tour Just Claimed Australia. LIV Never Saw It Coming.
Background: The Australian Open has been around since 1904. Good tournament. Great courses. Never quite had the global pulling power it deserved. That's about to change.
What happened: Golf Australia has locked in a three-year deal with both the PGA Tour and DP World Tour the first time the PGA Tour has ever formally partnered with Golf Australia. Bigger prize money, a protected spot on the global calendar, and a genuine push to get the world's best players to Australia.
What else: Rory McIlroy is back at Kingston Heath in December opening the DP World Tour season on the Melbourne Sandbelt. With LIV Golf losing its Saudi funding and wobbling, the PGA Tour moving into one of LIV's strongest markets is no accident.
What's the key learning?
Australian golf is getting a serious upgrade. More money, better players, global backing. The Melbourne Sandbelt is about to become one of the most talked-about stops in world golf.
If you've never been to the Australian Open Kingston Heath in December with Rory McIlroy headlining is about as good as it gets on home soil. Just saying.
